Investing - Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Consumption sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.69%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Petroleo Brasileiro SA, which rose 3.63% or 1.16 points to trade at 33.11 at the close. Meanwhile, Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN added 2.73% or 0.83 points to end at 31.19 and Gerdau SA Pref was up 2.59% or 0.55 points to 21.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hapvida Participacoes e Investimentos, which fell 7.34% or 1.12 points to trade at 14.14 at the close. YDUQS Participacoes SA declined 4.91% or 0.64 points to end at 12.40 and Vivara Participacoes SA was down 4.88% or 1.51 points to 29.41.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the B3 Stock Exchange by 528 to 414 and 48 ended unchanged.
Shares in Gerdau SA Pref rose to 52-week highs; up 2.59% or 0.55 to 21.80.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.85% to 24.85.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.77% or 35.36 to $4,579.34 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.88% or 1.71 to hit $61.03 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 1.26% or 4.50 to trade at $360.55.
USD/BRL was unchanged 0.03% to 5.38, while EUR/BRL fell 0.25% to 6.26.
