15th December 2025 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong's equities opened weaker on Monday, with the Hang Seng Index dropping 258 points at the open to 25,718 before extending losses to 25,698, down 278 points at the session low. It later pared some declines to trade 205 points, or 0.79 per cent, lower at 25,771. The China Enterprises Index slipped 91 points, or 1 per cent, to 8,988, while the Tech Index retreated 84 points, or 1.49 per cent, to 5,553. Turnover on the main board reached HK$51.9 billion.
Technology names weighed on the market. Tencent fell 2 per cent; Alibaba shed 2.4 per cent; Meituan edged 0.2 per cent lower; Xiaomi lost 1.9 per cent; JD.com declined 1.5 per cent; and Kuaishou slid 3.1 per cent.
Financials were mixed. HSBC Holdings dipped 0.9 per cent, whereas AIA Group advanced 1.7 per cent and Ping An Insurance gained 1.8 per cent. Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing inched up 0.1 per cent.
Property developer Vanke came under pressure after investors failed to approve the extension of a 2 billion yuan onshore bond, sending its shares down 3.2 per cent.
Selective gold miners outperformed, with Zijin Gold International jumping 5.2 per cent.
