Hong Kong Stocks Close Lower on China Data; Three Companies File for IPO

(MT Newswires) -- Hong Kong stocks closed lower Monday as markets reacted to a slew of macro data from China highlighting a sluggish economy.
The Hang Seng Index decreased by 347.91 points, or roughly 1.3%, to end at 25,628.88. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index also fell by 161.65 points, or around 1.8%, to 8,917.70.
Chinese total retail sales growth dropped 1.3% year over year to 4.390 trillion yuan, easing from 2.9% in October and missing a forecast of 2.8% by analysts polled by Reuters. Factory price growth slowed to 4.8% in November from 4.9% in October, missing a 5% estimate by analysts polled by Reuters.
Meanwhile, China's fixed-asset investment declined 2.6% year over year to 44.4 trillion yuan in the January-November period, marking the third straight month of decline and the steepest since the January-September period.
Elsewhere, new home prices in China's first-tier cities fell 0.4% month-on-month in November, wider by 0.1 percentage point compared with October.
Pinpoint Asset Management's chief economist in Hong Kong, Zhang Zhiwei, said the contraction in fixed-asset investment and the drop in property prices in recent months mirrored weakening consumer sentiment, the South China Morning Post reported.
In corporate news, three companies filed for initial public offerings in Hong Kong.
Artificial intelligence firm Nuobikan Artificial Intelligence Technology (Chengdu)is looking to raise as much as HK$401.4 million by offering 3.8 million H shares at an indicative price range of HK$80 and HK$106 apiece.
Biopharmaceutical firm Hanx Biopharmaceuticals (Wuhan) is aiming for as much as HK$586.3 million via the sale of 18.3 million H shares at an indicative price range of HK$28 to HK$32 per share.
Meanwhile, telehealth company QingSong Healthis targeting HK$601.9 million by offering as many as 26.5 million H shares at an indicative price of HK$22.68 apiece.
