Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall St. gains, weaker yen

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday after Wall Street rose overnight, while exporters were supported by the yen's weakness at around 150 to the U.S. dollar.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 215.14 points, or 0.55 percent, from Thursday to 39,126.33. The broader Topix index was up 13.15 points, or 0.49 percent, at 2,700.98.
On the top-tier Prime Market, gainers were led by pharmaceutical, precision instrument and bank issues.
At 9 a.m., the dollar fetched 150.10-12 yen compared with 150.19-29 yen in New York and 149.76-78 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Thursday.
The euro was quoted at $1.0829-0830 and 162.53-56 yen against $1.0825-0835 and 162.65-75 yen in New York and $1.0853-0854 and 162.54-58 yen in Tokyo late Thursday afternoon.
