Hang Seng Index opens higher as oil services and tech shares advance

3rd March 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong equities opened firmer on Tuesday, with the Hang Seng Index rising 130 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 26,190. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 42 points, or 0.48 per cent, to 8,744, while the Hang Seng Tech Index advanced 29 points, or 0.58 per cent, to 5,018.
Oil-related counters were among the strongest performers. The three major mainland energy producers traded steadily, with CNOOC edging up 0.2 per cent and PetroChina climbing 0.6 per cent, while Sinopec was unchanged. Oilfield services stocks attracted notable buying interest, as Shandong Molong surged 14.9 per cent, Beken Oilfield Services jumped 14.3 per cent and Sinopec Oilfield Service rose 8.9 per cent.
Technology heavyweights showed mixed performances. Alibaba gained 1.9 per cent, while Tencent and JD.com each added 0.7 per cent and Kuaishou rose 0.8 per cent. Meituan slipped 0.1 per cent and Xiaomi Holdings was flat.
Financial shares were divided. HSBC advanced 0.5 per cent and China Ping An rose 0.9 per cent, while AIA Group fell 0.5 per cent. Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing outperformed the sector with a 2.1 per cent gain.
Separately, recently listed artificial intelligence firm MiniMax rallied 9.9 per cent following the release of its earnings results.
