5th January 2026 - (Hong Kong) The Hang Seng Index opened with a modest gain of 22 points, or 0.08%, reaching 26,361 points. Conversely, the National Enterprises Index saw a slight decline of 2 points, or 0.03%, settling at 9,166 points, while the Tech Index rose by 18 points, equivalent to 0.32%, to report at 5,755 points.
In the technology sector, stock performances varied: Tencent increased by 0.1%, Alibaba climbed 1.4%, but Meituan fell by 0.3%. Xiaomi Group experienced a 0.7% rise, while JD.com declined by 0.2%. Kuaishou saw a notable increase of 5.8%.
Financial stocks demonstrated mixed results, with HSBC rising by 0.2% while AIA Group decreased by 0.1% and Ping An fell by 0.5%. Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing also edged up by 0.2%.
