28th August 2025 - (Hong Kong) The Hang Seng Index (HSI) started the day down by 171 points, or 0.67%, at 25,030. The China Enterprises Index dropped 77 points, or 0.85%, to 8,942, while the Tech Index declined 56 points, or 0.98%, to 5,641.
Technology stocks experienced broad declines, with Meituan plunging 9.7% following disappointing earnings. Tencent fell by 0.6%, Alibaba dropped 1.9%, JD.com slipped 1%, while Xiaomi and Kuaishou closed flat.
Financial stocks also showed weakness, with HSBC Holdings falling 0.2%, AIA dropping 0.6%, Ping An Insurance slipping 0.3%, and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange declining 0.3%. In contrast, Trip.com Group surged 5.6% after reporting strong earnings, bucking the overall market trend.
