14th October 2026 - (Hong Kong) The Hang Seng Index began the session on a softer note, slipping 62 points, or 0.26 per cent, to 24,282, with the Hang Seng Tech Index fractionally lower by 0.02 per cent at 4,135 and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index easing 0.16 per cent to 8,161. Early movers underscored a split tone across big-cap technology: Tencent Holdings fell 0.8 per cent while Alibaba Group rose 0.9 per cent; Meituan retreated 0.8 per cent as Xiaomi Corporation eased 0.6 per cent; JD.com inched up 0.4 per cent and Kuaishou Technology slipped 0.5 per cent.
Financials skewed weaker into the open, with HSBC Holdings down 1.1 per cent, AIA Group 0.4 per cent softer, Ping An Insurance off 0.2 per cent and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing lower by 0.5 per cent. The mixed start followed a choppy lead from Wall Street, where concerns around the AI trade left semiconductor names under pressure for a second day, feeding a mood of watchful restraint in early Asia trade. For Hong Kong's morning crowd, the feel was more coffee and caution than adrenaline, as investors weighed overnight cues against local earnings rhythms and the week's macro diary.
