Japanese Shares Flat as Nvidia`s Earnings Fail to Boost Sentiment

(MT Newswires) -- Japanese shares closed flat on Thursday, with Nvidia's second-quarter results failing to significantly sway investor sentiment despite exceeding revenue expectations.
The Nikkei 225 dipped 0.02%, or 9.23 points, to end at 38,362.53.
Nvidia reported Q2 revenue of $30.04 billion, exceeding the $28.70 billion forecast, and projected Q3 revenue of $32.5 billion, above the $31.77 billion estimate.
However, Nvidia shares slid up to 3.5% in volatile US after-hours trading, weighing on tech stocks and broader equities in Asia.
On the economic front, Japan is expected to report cooling inflation on Friday, with Tokyo's consumer price index forecast to drop to 1.9% in August from 2.2% in July, due to a temporary energy subsidy.
The unemployment rate for July is anticipated to remain at 2.5%.
In corporate updates, Riken Vitamin (TYO:4526) is expanding into Asia and North America by setting up subsidiaries in Thailand and Vietnam. Rikevita Thailand in Bangkok and Rikevita Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City will sell food and chemical-enhancing agents.
Astellas Pharma's (TYO:4503) Padcev (enfortumab vedotin) has received European Commission approval for use with Keytruda (pembrolizumab) as a first-line treatment for advanced urothelial cancer, based on Phase 3 EV-302 trial results showing significant improvements in overall and progression-free survival.
Key Coffee (TYO:2594) reported a 21.8% drop in attributable profit to 462 million yen for the fiscal first quarter ended June 30. Basic EPS fell to 21.59 yen from 27.61 yen, and net sales declined 0.8% to 19.073 billion yen.
