Hang Seng Inches Up at Finish

The Hang Seng edged higher to close at 26,847 on Wednesday, reversing early losses and sustaining gains for a second session as a private survey showed China's services sector grew at its fastest pace in three months in January ahead of the Lunar New Year.
Mainland equities also advanced, led by defensive names, as China's top legislative body convened ahead of March's annual meeting where leaders will set growth targets, fiscal priorities, and reform measures.
In Hong Kong, the private sector expanded for a sixth straight month in January, while retail sales posted their sixth consecutive monthly rise in December.
CK Hutchison climbed 2.1% after launching arbitration against Panama following the annulment of its port licenses.
Other movers were China Resources Land (5.4%), Pop Mart Intl. (2.7%), and Nongfu Spring (2.4%).
Conversely, SMIIC fell 2.3% on concerns that AI advances could displace traditional software.
